JOIN THE WAVES!

IT'S A-LEVEL RESULTS DAY! CONGRATULATIONS to everyone who got into the university they wanted, but an extra congratulation goes out to all the students who have got into either Brighton University or The University of Sussex.

WHY CHOSE THE WAVES?

If you are coming to either Brighton, Sussex or BSMS in September then you should start thinking about what societies or sports team you might want to join. We would recommend joining one because it is the best way to meet like minded people at university and it can make your whole university experience so much better if you find a group or team that is a perfect fit for you!

We would therefore highly recommend that you consider join our cheerleading squad, the Brighton and Sussex Waves.

The Waves are the only club that are joint and therefore accepts students from all three universities in Brighton! This is the perfect way to branch out and meet such a huge range of people, and the Waves welcome everyone and anyone to tryout!

We have 5 different squads and you can try out for all and any of them regardless of previous experience. We have two competitive cheer squads: Level 3 All Girl, and Level 3 Co-ed. (YES BOYS CHEER AND WE ALWAYS NEED MORE BOYS ON OUR TEAM!) We also have 3 competitive dance squads: Jazz, Pom, and Hip Hop.

WHY CHOOSE CHEER?

Cheerleading is one of the fastest growing sports in the UK. And yes, it is officially a sport and we challenge you to come and give it a go before saying otherwise.

Cheerleading includes four main sections: Stunting, which is the part where you either lift someone or get lifted in the air. Tumbling, which is gymnastics and includes both running and standing tumbles. Dance, which is a vital and fun part of the sport. And finally jumps, which feature throughout a routine.

The dance squads are separate to the cheerleading squads meaning you can be on either or both. The dancers compete at the same competitions as the cheer squads and the dance styles are specific to cheer competitions. However, the dancers are still Waves and all squads socialise together.

If you still aren't sure then have a look at this short video which shows just a few elements of the sport and what it is like to be a Wave.
